This week in Gr 4 was full of interesting and new things. Monday started with our first Flex period from 2:15-3:00pm. The students in our class went off to enjoy different activities in different classes. The main goal was to get the kids speaking in french in a more social setting. Ask your child what they did and how they liked it! We also had an author visit and a tour of the Book Fair. The author was very interesting and our class asked him some wonderful questions about the writing process, the illustrator and how he published his stories.
In English we continue our work on perfecting our paragraph writing. In Math we are winding down our subtraction and addition, soon to move on to multiplication. In Art this week we talked about the value of colours and the intensity.
Next week Mme Elaine will be back full time. I have really enjoyed teaching your children. I am very grateful for the time I had in their class. I look forward to seeing the kids when I am in the school as a Substitute.

Friday already!
Hello Everyone!
This week we finished off our subtraction lessons and are moving to combining addition and subtraction. The students will be encouraged to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n and read carefully!! We will be discussing french math terms that help us decode word problems.
We started our Saints project. Yesterday we got to explore the "slides" program in Google Chrome. The students tried different fonts, adding images to slides, changing backgrounds... next week we will start putting our research into a slide show.
In English the students started a paragraph writing journal. The paragraphs are very interesting to read. There are lots of creative and expressive writers in our class! Wonderful!!
In Art this week we did a paint/shaving cream project! The beautiful results will be on display during parent/teacher discussions.
Looking forward to seeing you next week, have a fantastic weekend!

This week in gr 4...
We finished our Remembrance Day project on Monday with a beautiful group art project. It is hanging in the hallway near our class. If you are able, come check it out! Tuesday afternoon we celebrated all together in the gym with a lovely and thoughtful liturgy. Thank you to all the parents that were able to come.
We continue our work on subtraction. There will be a quiz this Friday on estimating the difference and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. Many students struggle to understand word problems. This week I will be sending home word problems for them to read. I will explain it all to them and they will pass it on:)
Monday we will start a research project on Saints. The students will be given a Saint and asked to create a PowerPoint or a research poster to represent the information they have found.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

It was a fantastic Friday afternoon of costumes and board games!
This week we continue our work on subtraction. All students are encouraged to practice their basic math facts in subtraction and addition. You will see the flash cards in the students backpacks. Encourage the kids to practice whenever they can. (On the way to practice in the car, on the way home in the bus, before dinner....) Our goal is for the students to be able to solve subtraction and addition facts in a flash !(up to 9+9, 18-9 )
In Religion and English we are starting a research project about service medals. Today the students will see some medals and discuss what they could mean. We will be looking at the following website in order to learn about these medals. www.veterans.gc.ca

Wednesday already...
Time is flying ...
Yesterday in the afternoon we worked on a Halloween inspired art project, Calaveras. Ask your child all about it if they didn't tell you already! The kids did an amazing job of drawing and decorating skulls. I had some skull shapes ready to trace but encouraged them all to do their own. Wonderful Job! Not a single traced skull!
We head to the computer lab this afternoon in order to get some fun math practice going. Keep practising your numbers, adding them, saying them, playing with them! If you have a deck of cards at home, put them on the kitchen table and play if you have a moment :)
Have a wonderful week...!
